Ciao ragazzi!
Here are some advice if you are visiting Sicily and you want to get to the “Bioparco di Sicilia” using public transports from Palermo. We hope our own experience can be useful!
How and where does the adventure begin?
The first thing to do is to get to Palermo Central Station, once there, go to the platform area. On one side of the platform area, you will find the ticket machines and it is there where you purchase the ticket to get to Carini city centre, a journey of about 50 minutes.
As it was our first time, we didn’t know how to get the tickets, so we asked at the information point just next to it, where we were very kindly attended.
We have arrived in Carini and… now what?
When we got off the train it was not very clear where to go. We knew there was a bus that took you to the Bioparco – zoological garden, so we asked a some people for help to know where to catch the bus. They tried to help us by calling the bus company, but nobody answered the phone as it was Sunday.
The only solution they gave us was to walk… big mistake!
We opened google maps and started walking. We followed the sidewalk for15 and suddenly the sidewalk was cut off.
Never fully trust google maps!
We had to turn around and started walking on the hard shoulder- very dangerous – we do not recommend it at all.
After 2 long hours walking, we were right next to the Bioparck but the entrance was on the other side so we had to walk 30 minutes more.
Once arrived we were wreked, so we decided to rest outside the Biopark for a while. We asked again some people for directions and
wemade it, finally!!!
Inside the Park
Before gettin in we had to purchase €8,50 ticket – it was really worth it as we were able to see animals that we had never seen in real life!
It was quite exciting, we have seen chimpanzees, capybaras, iguanas, prairie dogs and even hippos.
Having such a place like this in Sicily is just amazing if you are comimg from abroad.
This is not only a place for kids but also for adults who want to experience some contact with natures and animals.
Seeing all these species really amazed us and left us very happy, we were not expecting such a cute place in Sicily.
All the animal were looked after, and each little creature is living in a habitat that suits its need. They are fed every day with fresh fruit and vegetables, people working inside the Biopark are nice and kind. We think also the weather hepls the animals feeling at ease as Sicilian temperatures are often very warm. All the animals looked very relaxed and we could also take pictures with them – so funny!
So bring the camera with you and get ready to smile and enjoy good vibrations!
Back to Palermo
Before leaving the biopark we spoke to a worker there and he told us that there was no bus because it was Sunday ( keep it in mind!)
He suggested us where to catch the bus and when we arrived at the bus stop it actually didn’t exist.
At some point, out of the blue, a bus appeared and we went running, raising our hands until the bus stopped and opened the doors for us – thankfully.
In Sicily you will often find kind people ready to give you a lift – hitchhiking is not a big deal after all.
On the bus we paid €1,20 per person – keep in mind that they only accept cash.
When we managed to get on the train, we immediately fall asleep because we were so tired.
What an adventure!!
Remember to visit the “Bioparco di Sicilia” , it really worth a visit!
