Ciao ragazzi!
One of the most memorable experiences when visiting Palermo is undoubtedly the Street Food.
Tasting typical, delicious and affordable food can only be found in a city like Palermo.
Where can you find street food?
Palermitan street food can be found along the main streets via Vitorio Emmanuele and via Maqueda. These two streets intersect at the baroque sculpture of Quattro Canti. In addition, in the mornings you can also taste different dishes in the three historical markets of Palermo: Ballarò, Capo and Vucciria.
To enjoy the markets in the best way we recommend you to come with us on our guided tour “The sound of the markets”.
What are the most typical dishes?
Among all the dishes we highlight the following: the arancina, breaded and fried rice balls with different fillings. Panino with panelle e crocchè, a sandwich with fried croquettes of potato flour and chickpea flour. Panino con la Milza, a sandwich with spleen and cow’s lung with lemon or grated cheese. The last, but not least, the Sfincione, the typical Palermo pizza. This is a kind of pizza with a higher dough with tomato sauce, salted anchovies, onion, breadcrumbs and cheese.
Don’t forget swordfih, sardines, zucchini and aubergines – typical and mediterranean recipes coming from the Arab roots of the city!
.
Not only savoury tastes, but also get ready for some sweet and unique food!
And something sweeter?
Those of you with a sweet tooth have come to the best place, the Sicilians are true confectioners and their desserts are a real treat. The most typical is surely the famous Cannolo – crunchy dough filled with ricotta cheese mixed with icing sugar and orange zest.
The Brioche with Gelato is a soft Sicilian sweet bread filled with ice cream or Sicilian granita.
Which dish surprised us the most?
After getting lost in the streets and markets of Palermo trying all kinds of food, two dishes stand out which would be panino con la milza which looks not very appetising and knowing that the ingredients are really unusual, but until you try it you can’t really judge it properly. The other dish would be the cannolo, we assure you that even if you don’t have a sweet tooth this dessert will surprise you.
Well, if you are feeling peckish already – get your belly ready, get lost in the markets and try all this good food with us.
You won’t regret it!
