The Via Francigena in Sicily
Summer is nearly there, and for this year we recommend proximity tourism, but no worries!
If you have already decided to visit Sicily, then you’re very lucky.
A place rich in history, monuments, traditions and unknown places, all to be discovered and where you can collect all your best memories.
Today, your favourite guide suggests you to take the path of the “Via Francigena”.
Historically, this bundle of beaten paths, also known as Roman Roads, began in Eastern Europe and ended up in Italy, in Rome or even sometimes continuing towards Puglia. Today, the path of the Via Francigena has extended until Sicily; here, in fact, we find four different types of routes:
Magna via Francigena, Palermo-Messina for the mountains, via Fabaria and via Mazarense.
These routes, which vary in duration from a minimum of nine days to a maximum of two weeks, are perfect for those seeking for adventure and unique experiences.
Although it may seem like a physical journey, this can actually be considered as a true spiritual journey. Here you can really get into contact with the surrounding nature.
To take the path of Via Francigena you only need a few things to bring with you:
a backpack, a compass, a map and a good camera to capture all the best moments.
We also recommend to leave your cell phone at home, so that you can completely disconnect your mind and totally immerse yourself into the experience.
Therefore, you not only have the feeling of going back in time and trusting the will of nature, but also of experiencing the hospitality of the locals, who make you feel like at home.
A recent example comes from the Panama Walkers: two girls from Northern Italy who have decided to undertake this path in Sicily and share it on social networks.
“We have been enchanted by this place and we want to promote this path, which has nothing to envy to the most well-known paths around the world”.
Haven’t you decided yet?
Pack your backpack and jump on this unforgettable adventure!
