Dear CityXcapers, it’s time to make a trip and take a tour in places we haven’t told you about yet!
About 50 kilometers from our headquarters, we find Alcamo, a town in the province of Trapani, a nice and esily town to reach.
It is a very interesting place where to spend some free time!
With its 45,000 inhabitants, the town is positioned exactly between mountains, countryside and seaside.
Alcamo hosts a beautiful natural reservewith its Mount Bonifato. The perfect place for trekking or bike trips – definitely a perfect choice for Adventure travellers.
Alcamo has an interesting and admiring city centre, full of cafès, restaurants and churches to visit . Continuing our trip in the south side of the town you can admire a fantastic countryside. It is the centre of production of some of the most famous wines in Sicily.
You can enjoy a beautiful seaside, with its 6 kilometers of Coast. Here you can find nice beaches and enjoy a full time relax and peacefull experience. (Along your journey plenty of “espressos” breaks matched with Sicilian snacks are assured) . Despite its six km coast, Alcamo is a location with lots of oppurtunities to invest in.
A Bit of History:
The name Alcamo comes from the Arabic word “al-qamah”, a world strictly connected with ”fertile land”.
The coat of arms of Alcamo represents a flying black eagle crowned with Gold on a silver background. It has three mountains below and two Golden Oak trees. This represents the two cities originally located in the territory of Alcamo.
With the characteristic of a location that attracts lots of attention , Alcamo has undergone several dominations : from Vandals, Ostrogoths, Byzantines and Muslims, to Normans and Swabians. A mix of united cultures that perfectly represents the modern citizens of Alcamo, we would say “viri soccu attrovi”! A suitable slogan that alignes the mix of Alcamo’s culture and history.
Around the 500 A.D. due to an attack the city centre was surrounded by defensive walls that communicated with the outside of the city through 4 different doors: Porta Palermo, Porta Trapani, Porta Corleone, Porta di Gesù.
How can a place that hosted Jews, Christians and Muslims communities living together peacefully – generally divided by their religious roots – cannot generate interest?
A journey to discover the authentic side of Alcamo:
Starting form a delightful breakfast in the gorgeous Central Square, Piazza Ciullo, we will visit the Castel of Conti di Modica.
After the visit we will continue with a walk along the close main road Corso Stretto. A perfect spot to take a break before getting to the sumptuous and very surprising Cathdral of Alcamo called “Chiesa Madre”. Continuing our walk in Alcamo , nearby we arrive at the medieval “Bastione”, with its amazing view from where you can admire the whole countryside and seaside.

Only 10 minutes away by car we can reach the close town of Castellammare del Golfo, a famous and growing turistic destination . A spectacular place where beautiful beaches, restaurants, bars and an impressive Summer Atmosphere represent Sicily.
This is certainly a perfect appointment for you! You can’t miss it!
Moreover, Alcamo is also the birthplace of Cielo d’Alcamo, one of the most significant and representative masterpiece of the popular jester poetry Sicilian school. The place where also the famous text “Rosa Fresca Aulentissima” is attributed.
Alcamo, as said, has its main production of one of the most amazing wines: the “Alcamo DOC White”.
In conclusion, today Alcamo represents a city to be certainly included in your trip plan in Western Sicily . For this reason, we truly hope you will enjoy it.
