The Sicilian Wildlife – The Natural Reserves
Dear readers I am Andrea, I recently joined the CityXcape family in the role of Blogger.
From today I will take you around our wonderful island.
Sicily hosts unspoiled landscapes, breath taking views, beaches and sea famous all over the world. It also hosts parks and lakes that not well known and ready to be explored.
Today we will take a tour of the Natural Reserves that we absolutely recommend you to visit!
In the first place we recommend Zingaro Nature Reserve
It is located in the province of Trapani, halfway between Castellamare del Golfo and San Vito lo Capo, A real paradise!
We recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a day of relax and adventure.
It is 7 km wide along the coastline with paths where you can find the small paths names of the coves that make the reserve unique. Clear and crystalline waters, surrounded by still unspoiled nature. At the entrance to the reserve, it will be possible to purchase an entrance ticket in which a map will also be presented to help you find your way along the reserve. Among the various paths you will also find hidden small museums and picnic areas where you can just relax. Certainly, a place not to be missed.
This time we take you to the mountains, to the Natural Reserve of the Madonie Park, best known among the regional parks in Sicily
The park is part of the UNESCO list geoparks because it hosts over half of the Sicilian plant species, including seventy different types of orchid and a variety of almost completely extinct trees.
For this reason, it represents one of the most beautiful landscapes of particular interest both from a geological and naturalistic point of view.
Why you should visit it? Well, because it is not just a natural park, but it is possible to take a walk through the paths, to do horse riding, mountain biking and also visit the caves and geological sites rich in fossils. It is also possible to hike along the courses of water. While in winter it is also possible to go skiing. In short, in Sicily has Everything!
Another reserve that we suggest you visit is the Saline di Trapani and Paceco Reserve
With an extension of almost a thousand hectares, in 1995 it was listed in one of the Italian associations of WWF, in fact the salt flats are a very important resting place for thousands of birds during both autumn and spring migration. Currently there are 208 bird species surveyed so far, including flamingos, which with their stunning pink plumage and their unmistakable grace, are hosted by this place, making it completely suggestive and unique in its kind. Let’s not forget that during summertime you can have a swim into its… pink waters!
Last but not least, we suggest you visit the Gole dell’Alcantara
They are located within the Botanical and Geological Park which extends for over 100 hectares between Messina and Catania.
The park and the gorges are the main tourist attraction of the Alcantara Valley, in fact both represent an incredible natural landscape, made of citrus groves, olive groves and woods. What characterizes this reserve are the walls of the gorges. This is the result of three lava flows, which have given rise to characteristic stone shapes. The reflections and glitters of the water, which are reflected on the rocky walls, are also suggestive. A show not to be missed!
We hope to have entertained you and gave you some suggestions for the next trip in Sicily.
Keep following our blog to keep discovering all the
beauties that this wonderful island brings with it.
